Categorical Teachers Classified as Temporary and Layoffs (K-12)
On March 1, 2012, the California Court of Appeals 3rd District (San Joaquin) found that eight categorical teachers hired by the Stockton Unified School District as “temporary” had to be treated as “probationary” for layoff purposes . In this case, all of the teachers had signed contracts as “categorical teachers”, which explicitly identified them as “temporary employees” and which also listed a specific date of termination.
