Child Abuse Reporting (CC)

Given the recent media publicity concerning child abuse reporting at Pennsylvania State University and the surge of pending child abuse reporting legislation, we thought it would be beneficial to remind our community college district clients about their child abuse reporting obligations. A “child” is a person under the age of 18 for purposes of the law. Because community colleges continue to enroll students who are under the age of 18, the reporting laws are in effect and yet faculty and staff can be uncertain or unaware of their mandated reporting obligations. Accordingly, it is imperative that community college districts ensure that their employees are fully aware of the reporting obligations for unemancipated persons under 18 years of age.
