Child Abuse Reports Are Confidential and Not Student Records (K-12)

On November 18, 2013, a California Court of Appeal found that a written report of suspected child abuse is not a student record, the report may only be shared with limited specific parties, and there is no immunity for the mandated reporter that fails to comply with the confidentiality provisions of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (“CANRA”).
