The Governor signed Senate Bill (“SB”) 972 on September 17, 2018, which adds Education Code § 215.5.[1]

Effective July 1, 2019, a public or private institution of higher learning shall have printed on either side of the student identification cards the telephone number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255.

In addition, the public or private institution of higher learning may have printed on either side of the student identification cards the telephone number for the Crisis Text Line, which can be accessed by texting HOME to 741741, and/or a telephone number for a local suicide prevention hotline.
