Legal Update Memo No. 04-2018 – Human Trafficking Prevention Education & Trafficking Act (K-12)

Assembly Bills (“ABs”) 1227 and 643 made revisions in the sexual health education program required for students in grades 7 through 12 to more specifically address human trafficking. As a reminder, parents of students may choose to “opt out” their children from any or all of the sexual health instruction.

Bid Limit Increased for 2018 (K-12)

The Superintendent of Public Instruction has raised the bid threshold limit for non-construction, competitively bid contracts. It is now set at $90,200 effective January 1, 2018. Public Contract Code section 20111(d) provides for an annual inflationary increase determined by the Superintendent of Public Instruction. The increase for 2018 has been set at 2.20%.
