Subject: Student Pre-Suspension Conference
Memo No. 28-2017
On October 3, 2017, the Governor approved Assembly Bill (“AB”) 667. Effective on January 1, 2018, during the informal conference prior to a student being suspended by the school administrator,[1] the student must also be informed of the other means of correction[2] that were attempted with the student prior to the suspension being imposed.
AB 667 does not require the other means of correction be provided to the student in writing, just orally during the pre-suspension conference. However, we advise that the written suspension notice provided to the student’s parents include the other means of correction attempted with the student prior to imposing the suspension. Please find enclosed with this Legal Update a copy of AB 667.
