Trained Unlicensed School Personnel May Administer Insulin to Students (K-12)
On August 12, 2013, the Supreme Court of California issued a decision in American Nurses Association v. Torlakson regarding the issue of whether only licensed health professionals, such as school nurses, could administer insulin to a student at school. The American Nurse Association (“ANA”) had argued that any use of unlicensed school personnel to administer insulin to a student at school would be a violation of California’s Nursing Practice Act.
